The Southeast Como Improvement Association (www.secomo.org) is accepting applications for a paid internship position to begin in January 2010.  Applicants must be willing to commit to one year (including summer).  Hours are flexible and range from 5 – 15 hours per week.  Pay range is $12 - $15/hour.  Resumes and cover letters are due by 5 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009.  Materials should be sent or dropped off to the attention of Justin Eibenholzl, Environmental Coordinator, SECIA, 837 SE 15th Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55414 (ec@secomo.org).  Interviews will be conducted in November with a final decision made by early December.

The ideal candidate would be a college sophomore or a junior with previous work or volunteer experience in the environmental field and/or an environmental major.  Applicants with experience as community/issue organizers (paid or unpaid) would also be highly desired.  Must be detail-oriented, able to manage time and duties, willing to take direction and work independently.

The intern will play an integral role in developing a neighborhood pilot project to divert usable furniture, appliances, housewares, etc. from the waste stream.  The bulk of these items are discarded during move-in and move-out months (e.g. May/June and August/September) in the Como neighborhood, just ½ a mile north of the University of Minnesota’s East Bank campus.
