Description: SECIA neighborhood organization supports a number of award winning community gardens of all kinds; food production, native and beautification. We work with community gardens because they build community, beautify the neighborhood, provide habitat for pollinators and wildlife, collect rainwater runoff, and provide opportunities for residents to grown their own food. The Community Garden Intern will support of all our gardening projects, and support community events that feature gardening and other eco-topics. We are looking for candidates with prior knowledge about gardening, and plants. We also seek flexibility, creative thinking, ability to write and utilize Internet tools, and be able to get along with a variety of people. SE Como residents are especially encouraged to apply.

Interns will take home new knowledge on how to grow-your-own, and learn what it is like to work at a non-profit organization. SECIA takes pride in our efforts to incorporate students into the neighborhood's initiatives. Many past interns stay connected to SECIA after their terms, occasionally being offered paid positions, and others earn letters of recommendation.This is an unpaid internship opportunity near the University's Minneapolis campus
Location: In and around the SE Como neighborhood: Mostly at SECIA's offices & at the neighborhood community gardens. SE Como is just north by walking from the U's East Bank.
Position Schedule: Flexible schedule is best, with garden times typically happening on some Tuesday or Wednesday evenings, and weekends (Saturday & Sunday mornings). A weekly office time during Tuesday or Thursday business hours will also be arranged per Intern's schedule.
Requirements: Persons with gardening and plant knowledge are required. Physical labor is involved in this position such as digging, planting seeds, and hauling in various types of weather. We expect interns to be reliable, and prefer an enthusiasm to acquire skills. Candidates with experience in Google tools (i.e. calender, maps, sites, docs, spreadsheets, picasa) would be ideal, but not required.
