On Thursday July 7th, kids from the Rec Plus program at Van Cleve Park gathered to learn more about the raised bed gardens in front of the Rec Center. We familiarized ourselves with all the vegetables and flowers growing in the beds and discussed techniques on how to care for the garden. The young gardeners then designed labels and placed them with the corresponding plants. The brightly colored labels are artistic and help visitors of Van Cleve Park identify the plants. Before the afternoon was done, the kids sampled some of the veggies and herbs that were ready to eat, such as lettuce, chives, cilantro, dill, and basil.
Thank you Rec Plus for a fun afternoon! Hopefully, when the produce is ready, the kids will come back to help with harvesting and eating the vegetables.
